Wow, it seems like an absolute age since the last blog entry! Maybe thats just a sign of my age Well the reason for the lack of blog just lately is the amount of work! It’s pleasing to know that people like the work we do, and as a result we have plenty of projects on the go at the moment, including a site for some Cheerleaders, a longer term project for a Caricaturist, and we’ve just kicked off with a build for a local group accommodation centre, which is proving to be a really enjoyable one!

I think that I’ve finally put my finger on why things are as good as they are… we offer something that very few others do! Not only do we love being able to charge nice wallet-friendly rates, but as a client you even get the chance to earn back the money you spend! How cool is that?! Now don’t get me wrong, we don’t do this just because we are nice people (although we are)! We do this because we understand that a businesses most important asset is it’s existing clients.

You probably know by now that I’m rather passionate about Search Engine Optimization. Well, recent developments in the world of Search Providers have caused quite a stir amongst the online community, and is something that is likely to effect many a website worldwide!

Given that my job demands a huge amount of time spent on SEO I thought it only appropriate to write about these developments.

Every website is given a page rank by Search Providers, and its this page rank that determines a sites listing within the providers search pages. For example, page rank 1 would see a site appear in 1st place on a random search. However, some of the nets top Search Providers have announced that the page rank will now have several factors determining how that ranking is worked out.

The biggest threat to many sites is that the providers will be lowering the page rank of sites who sell links. For example, a site has a low page rank and so buys a link from a top performing site. This of course means disaster for many of these sites that rely heavily on selling the add space. BUT… we suspect that the page rank of those sites buying the links will also drop.

Now, the benefits of this is that smaller sites with lower or non-existent marketing budgets will get a fair play, but for those companies who rely heavily on paid links, such as referrals, it could spell the end of the line!

Of course, looking beneath the surface we are sure that the Search Providers own Pay-Per-Click systems will of course remain unaffected :-)  I guess that this will mean another step closer to total web domination!

Anyway, speculation aside, if you want to ensure you are not effected by these developments you should of course stay well away from any form of paid for advertising online. Not only will this save you money, but it will also save your site from falling into the murky depths of the web2.

Replace the time spent working on your paid referrals with some quality planning and preparation time focusing on ensuring your site is inline with proper SEO guidelines. This alone will help get your site a little higher in the ranking stakes.
